PPA COLLABORATE: Our role in facilitating discussions with peers to share best practise and address common challenges.

Members are encouraged to put forward relevant team members to take part in the various agenda-setting steering groups and networks run by the PPA.

 

Business Media Network

This group provides an opportunity for leaders in the business media space to meet and discuss common challenges they are facing in their own businesses and share ideas for transformation and innovation to help their business adapt, grow and thrive. This is a sustainable and active network of CEOs, MDs, and senior business leaders.

Independent Publisher Network

This network comprises CEOs, MDs and Publishers from some of our independent publisher members, those small-medium businesses that operate independently, usually with an annual turnover of under £10million. This group meets regularly to discuss common challenges faced by these business owner and recent work has included a benchmarking report as well as presentations of new and emerging technology solutions . This network is a real opportunity for peer-to-peer support and information exchange.

Commercial Strategy Steering Group

Bringing together commercial leaders for learning, networking and strategical discussions around marketing solutions and commercial best practice, this group is open to PPA member firms in the B2B space. The aim of the steering group is to address key challenges like recruitment and retention, discuss relevant metrics for tracking and improving performance, and encourage members to build a network of peers in similar job functions. Meetings take place quarterly, with ad hoc networking opportunities where there is demand.

Digital Regulation and Policy Forum

Bringing together member businesses to inform PPA policy making, lobbying and consultation responses in all aspects of digital regulation and legislation. This Forum aims to create a coherent, joined-up vision for a digital environment that will allow PPA members to capitalise on digital opportunities, innovate at pace, and mitigate threats. Meetings take place quarterly, with ad hoc working groups for specific policy areas.

Sustainability Action Group

Actively facilitates the interactions of industry actors, to help achieve sustainability targets and offers an excellent platform for discussing key environmental concerns and share information on how to address these.

The PPA Sustainability Action Group meets quarterly to discuss the pressing issues of the day and members of this group are engaged in actively working towards targets signed in our Responsibility Deal with the government.

The work spans a number of areas from ensuring events are run in a sustainable way to offering magazine wrapping guidelines, to a range of resources and whitepapers to help members deal with environmental issues and policy.

Current work involves the development of an industry pledge as well as scoping the build for an industry calculator, allowing members of all sizes to track their progress.

PPA Digital Collective

Bringing together those responsible for leading their digital product strategies. This new network allows members to connect and collaborate via roundtables and networking opportunities to advance the conversation in the digital publishing space.

As well as the sharing of best practice, recent discussions included technology options, talent challenges and developing business cases etc. These sessions also include presentations from technology partners so that group members are kept up to date on new solutions.

ED&I Steering Group

Under the initiative PPA Progress, we have established an active EDI steering group, with the long-term aim of moving the dial on diversity, equity and inclusion both for the industry as a whole and to help our members make changes within their own businesses. The group meets quarterly to discuss challenges they are facing, share their own policies and approaches, and help inform the PPA on where to focus future member-wide workshops. Our group is facilitated by our partner consultancy, https://www.project23works.com

This year we published a number of webinars (including sessions on women in leadership and invisible illness in the workplace as well as hosting presentations on various work place trends. These updates for members included a breakdown of the following reports:

Subscriptions & Membership

Bringing together senior consumer and B2B subscription/membership professionals to discuss industry challenges, success stories, innovations and feedback to PPA on related regulatory issues. Recent work included a benchmarking report which allowed the group to assess how their performance compared against market performance. Upcoming work includes subscriptions training opportunities at heavily discounted rates as well as a number of roundtables and networking dinners.

Supply Chain Group

Ad Hoc meetings bringing together major distributors in a neutral environment when an industry-wide response is required e.g. obtaining key worker status for delivery drivers at the beginning of the pandemic, joint sales promotions, responding to requests from large retail groups with one voice and more.

Postal Strategy Group

Meeting four times a year to direct PPA’s strategy on postal issues by focusing on and interfacing with Royal Mail and other access providers about pricing, product, technical and regulatory issues to ensure a cost-effective, efficient, and reliable UK single copy delivery service. The group is made up of production and procurement directors from B2B and consumer businesses responsible for the budgetary and delivery performance of mailings.
