Third Sector Appoints New Editor

Emily Burt has been appointed editor of Third Sector.

Burt has been deputy editor of the brand since joining in May 2019 from the HR publication _People Management_, where she was senior staff writer.

Since joining Third Sector, Burt has transformed the brand’s long-form features content and played a central role in its recent reimagination.

Burt has worked for Haymarket, the owner of Third Sector, since 2015 and last year was named in the PPA’s 30 Under 30 New Talent list for her journalistic achievements.

She is also co-founder of the digital sex and relationships education resource Fumble, which she helped to set up in her spare time in 2016. The website was established to plug the gap left by inadequate relationships and sex education in the UK, and last month became a registered charity.

Burt replaces Andy Hillier, who will concentrate full time on his new role as business director of Third Sector.

Hillier said: “Emily has done a fantastic job since joining Third Sector last year. Not only has Emily proven herself to be an exceptional writer, but she is also truly a modern multimedia journalist capable of seamlessly switching between print, online and audio. We look forward to Emily taking Third Sector to new and even greater heights.”

Burt said: “It’s a huge privilege to take on an editorship in any circumstances, and I feel incredibly lucky to be trusted with a brand as brilliant as Third Sector.

“I’m looking forward to continuing Andy’s hard work on our recent magazine and website re brand, and working with the rest of the stellar editorial team to amplify your stories, big and small.”
