Supporters of Where’s Your Head At? gathered on College Green yesterday, led by Rachel Riley, Bryony Gordon, Natasha Devon MBE and Luciana Berger MP presenting specially-commissioned art work by students from University of the Arts London (UAL) urging the Government to debate this issue in Parliament.

Representatives from Bauer Media and Mental Health First Aid England along with Natasha Devon MBE and Luciana Berger MP delivered the petition to Downing Street following a Parliamentary breakfast celebrating public backing of the campaign and calling for further support from businesses.

Where’s Your Head At? has already garnered support from prominent business leaders including: Andy Barrett, Chairman & Managing Director, Ford of Britain; Stephen Clarke, Chief Executive, WHSmith, John Kirkland, Chairman, Bowmer & Kirkland, Jodie Stranger, CEO of Starcom, Josh Krichefski, CEO of Mediacom, and David Hynam, Jon Mew, CEO of IAB, CEO of BUPA. In addition to The Centre of Mental Health, Rethink Mental Illness, SANE, LawCare and The Samaritans.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “It’s important that London is a place where people can speak openly about their mental health and the support they need. That’s why I’m working hard to improve Londoners’ awareness and understanding, to remove the stigma and achieve real improvements in access to support and care for those who need it.

Employers have a big role to play in helping their workforce and it’s time the government showed its commitment to the issue by ensuring workplaces provide both mental and physical first aid.”

The Where’s Your Head at? campaign conducted a survey into the state of the UK’s mental health and uncovered:

• 86% of the men and women who responded agreed that mental health is one of the biggest challenges facing the country today and over a third (33%) of those people said they are more stressed now than they were a couple of years ago;

• 90% of the public say they still feel there is a taboo around discussing mental health;

• Over half (56%) of respondents said that if they had to take time off work due to stress/anxiety then they would tell their boss the truth, but this was lower for those living in London.
