Beyond audiences to community: the future of loyalty in a fan-driven world

Today’s audiences are no longer passive consumers of content – they’re fans, followers, and your peer-to-peer network involved in an iterative and ongoing value exchange.

Our communities are tied to shared passions and interests. Whether you are interested in the latest sports trends and players, understand and participate in the latest runway fashion trends, or just get involved for pure entertainment – niche communities are thriving.

Join us for this in-person event on Tuesday 11 March (4-6pm). We will explore how publishers can embrace this new community paradigm, diving into the strategies, tools, and insights necessary to foster loyalty, build meaningful connections, and create sustainable member-centric revenue models.

Focusing on highly segmented, hyper-engaged groups of communities who follow, advocate, share, and engage frequently could prove more valuable than seeking scale, eyeballs, and market share.

This is a free-to-attend event for PPA members – we have limited availability so register today to secure your spot.

Why attend?
  • Stay ahead of audience trends
Discover the impact of fan-driven engagement, and how it’s reshaping B2C and B2B publishing and what audiences now expect.

  • Learn practical strategies
Gain actionable insights on how to design and think about building communities, fostering loyalty, and adapting to the growing expectation for personalised, cross-platform experiences.

  • Collaborate with experts
Network with industry leaders, innovative publishers, and digital community builders to exchange ideas and best practices.

Why publishers need to think of audiences as fans
  • Fans vs. audiences
Fans are deeply engaged. They want to participate, contribute, and feel part of something bigger. Audiences, on the other hand, are passive recipients of content. Shifting from “audience” to “fan” means fostering deeper emotional connections and loyalty.

  • Competition is everywhere
Whether it’s B2C publishers competing with content creators or B2B publishers battling for attention across platforms, the fight for attention requires rethinking engagement. Fans demand meaningful, interactive experiences – publishing strategies must adapt to meet these expectations.

  • The future of monetisation
Fans are more likely to invest in exclusive content when they feel connected to the community. This shift opens new doors for sustainable revenue models.
