As an industry, we innovate, we inspire, and we drive progress. The PPA is here for those who want to play an active role within the media landscape, connect with Industry peers, and benefit from the power of the collective.
Our sector contributes £3.7bn to the UK economy and employs 55,000 talented and passionate professionals nationwide. We reach and engage a vast audience, with 84% of the UK population connecting with PPA member brands*.
Working alongside key organisations, and other professional associations, the PPA provides a vital touchpoint for the specialist media sector, ensuring our members’ opinions are part of the conversation.
By coming together, we align our public affairs efforts to enact change through policy and regulatory advocacy. Past focus areas include the impact of AI regulation, intellectual property, the Online Safety Bill, the formation of the Digital Markets Unit, Royal Mail regulation affecting magazine deliveries, subscription contracts regulation, and the Online Sales Tax.
We work closely with our members, exchanging ideas and addressing challenges through curated events like dinners and the Digital Regulation and Policy Forum. We also facilitate meetings with MPs and their local publishing businesses, and keep members informed with regular news updates and resources.
Our outreach spans various stakeholders, including ministers, government bodies, regulators, peers, MPs, and allied organisations, which allows us to influence policy from its conceptual stages right through to implementation.
The PPA’s position on numerous industry boards and steering groups allows us to champion the interests of our members. These include:
Magnetic is the PPA’s marketing hub. It works closely with advertiser clients and their agencies to highlight the many benefits of working with our publisher brands. It shares the effectiveness of our member brands for advertisers through case studies, audience measurement, insight, and the value of sector-specific partnerships and events.
The PPA manages the industry’s relationship with Royal Mail on issues including pricing, quality of service, and product development. We are responsible for setting the industry’s position on regulatory issues relating to the postal market and working with the postal regulator, Ofcom.
For the magazine media sector, prominent promotion and timely display are crucial for driving in-store sales. We facilitate collaboration between retailers and PPA members to support retail excellence and ensure a positive experience across the supply chain.
