Your content, your terms? Evidencing and shaping the CMA’s publisher controls

A closed-door breakfast briefing for publishing leaders.

For years, publishers have watched their content power search results and, more recently, AI-generated answers, with little say over how it’s used. The CMA’s new publisher controls are meant to change that, giving publishers a mechanism to decide how their content appears in Google’s AI-powered search features.

But regulation doesn’t end when the rules are published. Whether the controls deliver will depend on how Google implements them, and on whether publishers can show what’s happening to their content in practice. What should you be monitoring now? What evidence will the CMA need to act? And how can publishers make their voice count as the CMA oversees compliance and decides whether the rules need strengthening?

Join the PPA and leading competition litigation firm Hausfeld for a breakfast briefing on Wednesday 25 November (11:00am- 12:30pm).

Hausfeld’s specialists will explain what the controls require in practice, what publishers should be tracking, how to engage with the CMA effectively, and what routes are available when things go wrong. This will be followed by a frank, open discussion among peers.

Held under the Chatham House Rule, this is a rare opportunity for publishing leaders to get clear, expert guidance and speak candidly about one of the most significant issues facing the industry.
