PPA Independent Publishing Network: latest updates

The PPA Independent Publisher Network brings together senior leaders of independent media businesses to share ideas, learn best practice, and lean on each other during challenging times.

Meeting once a quarter, they discuss the biggest issues facing our industry freely and openly. It is an opportunity for leaders to share insight – the conversations are of immense value – especially to smaller organisations that may not have the same resources for specialism across their business.

Key takeaways from the most recent meeting (June 2026)

Strong performance across acquisitions, events, and subs
For the second quarter, there are signs of buoyancy – hitting annual budgets and generally showing positive business signs.

Print subscriptions are growing
One publisher has seen 66-67% of revenue consistently coming from print subs over the last 8 years (with over 50% growth), and the remainder of the business being made of changing revenue streams.

Building digital communities
was that these communities should be adapted to where the audiences are,  what they want and where they will find value, be that in creating specialist platforms or developing WhatsApp communities.

EU import levy
Remains a key focus before it begins on 1 July 2026. The PPA will continue to lobby decision makers and investigate this issue. And will provide timely updates on any new information we receive.
