Glamour names first Global Editorial Director

Samantha Barry, current Editor-in-Chief of Glamour US, is stepping into a new role.

Barry will lead on content strategy across Germany, Mexico and Latin America, Spain, the UK, and the US.

Since beginning her tenure overseeing the US edition in 2018, Barry has driven the magazine’s shift towards digital-first strategy and content.

Glamour ceased its print operations in 2019 (January 2019 was Glamour’s final print edition), and since, Barry has led online audience and engagement growth while amping up the publication’s video and commerce capabilities.

She said: “As I step into this Global Editorial Director role, I am excited to harness Glamour’s storied legacy and amplify the voices of women worldwide. The Glamour teams around the world have done a phenomenal job of telling the stories of women across every platform with content that not only informs and entertains but inspires action and advocacy.”

Anna Wintour, Condé Nast’s Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, said: “I can’t think of a stronger leader to become Glamour’s first-ever Global Editorial Director. Sam has impeccable editorial instincts and has successfully led Glamour into its digital future. She is passionate and cares deeply about what matters most to women today as shown through her powerful advocacy for issues like paid family leave. I’m incredibly excited for Glamour’s next era under her direction.”

The appointment of Barry is part of a new strategy for Condé Nast. Since December 2020, Wintour has held the Global Editorial Director position for Vogue, meaning she has purview of almost 30 Vogue titles worldwide (individual titles such as Vogue France, Vogue Italy, and British Vogue now also boast regional Heads of Editorial content in lieu of Editors-in-Chief).

Also in December 2020, Amy Astley was appointed Global Editorial Director of AD; Will Welch to Global Editorial Director of GQ; and Divia Thani to Global Editorial Director of Condé Nast Traveller.
