Gardens Illustrated Celebrates its 300th Issue

Gardens Illustrated is celebrating its 300th Issue this month, as it reaches more readers than ever before.

First published in 1993, the stylish garden magazine quickly established itself as essential reading for passionate gardeners looking for inspiration, innovation and insights. Gardens Illustrated has defined the market with its unique and varied offering of remarkable gardens, must-have plants and expert advice, as well as championing emerging trends in the world of horticulture. Gardens Illustrated has had just four editors over it 28-year history to date, launch editor Rosie Atkins, Clare Foster, Juliet Roberts and current editor Lucy Bellamy, each of whom has stamped a strong identity and voice for the magazine.

In the last year, Gardens Illustrated has performed well with its combined circulation increasing by 10% YOY to 42,123 and subscriptions up by 43%. The brand has created additional touch points to engage its audience including the website, gardensillustrated.com, social media outreach and more recently, knowledge-sharing online masterclasses – always with a strong brand identity and ethos that bring the pages of the magazine to life.

Lucy Bellamy Editor of Gardens Illustrated adds, ‘For a title to have such heritage and staying power within both the magazine world and horticultural industry really is worth celebrating. What’s even more exciting is seeing how the brand has grown and adapted along with its audience and technology to offer an ever more distinctive and authoritative voice. Our aim going forward is to enhance this heritage and explore new opportunities in tandem with the award-winning garden designers, plant experts, writers and photographers with whom the magazine has long enjoyed such fabulous relationships. Now, more than ever, we want to share our passion with other garden lovers – be they confirmed enthusiasts or complete beginners – in search of a greater connection to the outdoors.’

To celebrate its 300th issue, the magazine is offering a free digital copy of Issue 1, and 37 of its original subscribers, all of whom have been with the magazine since Issue 1, will be receiving a goody bag filled with a host of Gardens Illustrated branded products including a pen, a bag, a garden kneeler, twine an apron, a tea towel, a book and a Letter from the Editor, Lucy Bellamy.

On gardensillustrated.com, esteemed colleagues, contributors and industry friends will be wishing the magazine a very happy birthday, all to coincide with launch day.
