PLS AI licensing consultation briefing

Publishers’ Licensing Services (PLS) is soon to begin the first phase of a publisher consultation on two opt-in collective licensing proposals covering generative AI. The proposals, developed by the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) in close collaboration with PLS and other CLA members, cover the following:

  • Generative AI Workplace Licence: A licence that would permit organisations to make copies and upload them to third-party AI tools within their workplace.
  • Generative AI Training Licence: A licence that would be available to any organisation that wishes to use copyrighted works to train a generative AI model.

As part of this process, PLS will be provided an online briefing for PPA members to talk through the proposals and invite initial feedback.

For more information or if you have any questions, please get in touch with events@ppa.co.uk.

This briefing was for PPA members who have opted to license in the business sector through CLA. If you are unsure of your company’s licensing settings, please check with PLS at publisher-relations@pls.org.uk.
