Condé Nast yesterday announced the appointment of Katharine Bailey, who will lead the company’s global product and design organisation as senior vice president, global head of product and design.
Bailey will report to Sanjay Bhakta, chief product and technology officer, and will be based in New York. Her appointment is effective May 24, 2021.
“I’m thrilled that Katharine is joining our global product and tech leadership team, bringing a wealth of experience in building scale and driving product innovation to our team. She is a strategic leader with extensive product knowledge that enables the growth of commercial, mobile, subscription, and consumer revenue, and has expertise in delivering product and customer experiences that surprise and delight on a global scale,” said Bhakta.
Bailey’s hire bolsters the company’s recent commitments to enhance the consumer experience and grow new lines of revenue which include an increased focus on direct-to-consumer experiences such as membership, subscription and commerce. In her new role, Bailey will be responsible for redefining the company’s brand product strategies in order to transform the cross-platform experience across Condé Nast’s global portfolio, which reaches a combined audience of 1 billion, says the company.

Bailey has a career spanning more than 20 years with experience in leveraging scale and building digital products to engage new audiences at global media organisations. She most recently held the role of general manager, platforms, senior vice president digital at the Wall Street Journal & Dow Jones where she was responsible for launching and growing membership businesses in partnership with Apple, Facebook, and Google. Prior to that, Bailey led the product team for WSJ for several years, leading cross-functional teams responsible for overhauling and redesigning digital products. Before Dow Jones, she worked at NBCUniversal leading teams developing applications to support both the on air and digital advertising businesses.
