The minister was joined by MSPs and MPs from across the political spectrum at the Edinburgh reception, along with Scottish Police Federation (SPF) representatives and journalists from many of Scotland’s leading media publications.
1919 Magazine focuses on policing and justice issues in Scotland, and is funded by the SPF. It has been shortlisted for four PPA Scotland awards since being launched in June 2021.
The audience at the event was addressed by Constance, SPF chair David Threadgold, Jamie Greene MSP, who was Conservative justice spokesperson at the time, and Alan Roden from the 1919 editorial team.
Constance, who was recently appointed to the role of Justice Secretary by Humza Yousaf, told the reception: “I want to recognise the significant pressures on our police officers and staff, responding to and supporting mental health incidents in our communities.”
Along with Jamie Greene, she praised 1919 for shining a spotlight on policing and justice issues which would otherwise not be covered by the media.
Alan Roden told the audience: “We’re proud to tell so many stories from the frontline of policing and to give a voice to those serving the public.
“Scotland is blessed to have such a strong media and although we’re only a very small part of it, we hope our contribution has made it even stronger.”
