How the PPA Are Supporting Publishers Through COVID-19

As the situation with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and epidemic develops and rapidly changes the lives of all of us here in the UK, the PPA team are working hard to support our members and help all of us through this crisis.

The PPA are here to support you by working closely with the PPA Board, who represent the largest publishers in the UK, to identify immediate actions we can take to support all our members – large or small.

Like many of you, we have taken the difficult decision to postpone our major event of the year, The PPA Festival and are now deploying resources to provide you with targeted help and support. We will be providing virtual opportunities to network and share best practice in the coming weeks. Our public affairs team have open dialogues with DCMS, BEIS, and other government ministers to share your experiences and to input your questions and concerns, as you react to rapidly changing events.

We have already asked government to ensure that its own advertising budget is directed to your readers (where Magnetic continuously prove it is so effectively spent), and to specifically look at support for publishers in the most immediate and hardest-hit categories including travel, leisure, and hospitality. We have also lobbied government to request that publishers, and their events businesses, are included in Business Rate holiday and connected grant measures, and to ensure key worker status to keep the supply chain moving.

To help us better help you, we will shortly be sharing a survey to capture your experiences and immediate questions, experiences, and needs.

In the meantime, please feel free to get in touch with your usual PPA contact, or email either of us directly, if you have anything at all you’d like to raise. We have also created a coronavirus hub on the PPA website, which is updated regularly with advice and insight from our partners. It also signposts the latest and most relevant government support and the support available to help you and your teams under these current pressures.

Our regular weekly email, PPA Radar, will continue to bring you a round-up of the week and also look to bring a smile in these difficult times, as our industry gears up to keep the nation informed and entertained during these weeks of social isolation. Together, we will make it through this.
