WIRED Appoints Greg Williams Deputy Global Editorial Director

Wired global editorial director Gideon Lichfield yesterday announced the appointment of Greg Williams to the role of deputy global editorial director.

Williams has served as editor-in-chief of Wired UK since 2017. The appointment is part of Conde Nast’s ongoing transformation towards a unified global content structure, says the company.

“In four years at the helm of Wired UK, Greg has established a series of new revenue streams, including a strong consulting offering, expanding the Wired events portfolio, a landmark annual trends presentation and Virtual Briefings, as well as publishing a Wired book series — all while continuing to uphold the editorial excellence for which the publication is known,” said Lichfield. “I'm delighted to have a deputy who combines an entrepreneurial spirit with a deep attachment to the Wired brand and its editorial values. I look forward to replicating his success across our global markets.”

As deputy GED, Williams will serve as the editorial lead on developing new business initiatives, particularly outside the US, including the expansion of the consulting business and consumer events. Additionally, Williams will continue to oversee UK-specific products such as the print edition, events, and supplements, supporting Wired’s global presence.

Condé Nast announced the unification of its global editorial structures for Wired, GQ, Vogue, Architectural Digest and Condé Nast Traveler in December 2020. This, says the company, is part of the ongoing transformation to expand content creation across global platforms.

According to Condé Nast, the mission is to be digital-first and globally local, enabling brand teams around the world to work collaboratively serving audiences and partners journalistic excellence and a premium creative experience.
