Scottish content agency White Light Media changes ownership

Edinburgh-based, award-winning agency White Light Media has announced a change of ownership to take the business into a new decade.

18 years after launching the company, CEO & Owner Fraser Allen is leaving the business and will be moving on to work as a freelance writer, project manager and consultant.

Fraser, and his fellow shareholders, Jo Allen and Stuart McPherson, have sold the business to Eric Campbell, who has been with White Light for 12 years – starting as Senior Designer before moving up to Creative Director and then Managing Director. His wife, Jennifer Campbell, also joins the board as a shareholder.

The business will continue to work from its offices close to the Leith waterfront in Edinburgh, with a strong relationship continuing between Fraser, Eric and the team.

“18 years is a long time to be the owner/manager of the business and I’m keen to spread my wings a bit and get back to focusing on what brought me into this business in the first place – writing and working one-to-one with clients,” said Fraser.

“I have three clients to start with and am really looking forward to the year ahead. It will also be an exciting 12 months for White Light. Eric has a wealth of experience working directly with clients and has a strong handle on digital content marketing, branding, publishing and external/internal comms. The business has a great portfolio of clients and a talented team capable of powering it through new adventures over the next decade. Eric and I are also hoping to partner up with each other on projects.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has worked at White Light over my years here, our wonderful clients, my founding partner Alan Lennon, my non-exec shareholder Stuart McPherson and my wife, Jo Allen, who has contributed a huge amount to the business, in terms of ideas, support and in her former role as our Business Manager.’

White Light's new owner, Eric Campbell, said that he was excited to continue developing the company.

“I am extremely excited to take on the challenge of managing White Light into the next decade,” he said. “I’ve seen the business change in so many ways over the past 12 years and I truly believe that we can keep pushing the boundaries of what we do and how we work with our clients.

“Fraser has been an inspiring mentor and encouraging boss so I’m delighted that he has the belief in me to take the company onwards and upwards. The team have been fantastic with their support and are raring to kick off 2020 with numerous exciting projects lined up.”

In teh last 18 years the award-winning White Light Media has branched out from its initial focus on magazine publishing, into campaign branding, internal comms and digital content, winning numerous awards.

Clients have included Scottish Widows, Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group, Standard Life, Channel 4, Tesco and Total.

The business is also well known for its own creative projects such as Hot Rum Cow (the magazine voted the world’s best drinks publication at the 2017 Spirited Awards in New Orleans), Poppy (the brain food journal for finance comms professionals) and White Light’s Got Issues (the online marketing journal available at www.whitelightmedia.co.uk).

The company also organised worldwhiskyday.com, which will now continue under the ownership of Fraser.
