Newsagents On List of Shops To Remain Open

Off-licenses remain open during the COVID-19 pandemic as they are listed as 'essential' retailers.

Following PPA representation to the government to ensure continuity of the magazine supply chain, newsagents are included in the list of retailers who can remain open during the lock down, ensuring consumers have access to news, information and entertainment while staying at home.

After strict new restrictions were brought in by government earlier this week, it issued a list of “essential retailers” that are allowed to stay open.

 They include:

  • Supermarkets and other food shops
  • Pharmacies
  • Off-licences and licensed shops selling alcohol, including those within breweries
  • Petrol stations
  • Newsagents
  • Bicycle shops
  • Home and hardware stores
  • Launderettes and dry cleaners
  • Garages
  • Pet shops
  • Post offices
  • Banks
