Immediate Media Co CEO Tom Bureau appointed Deputy Chairman of the PPA

Tom Bureau, CEO of Immediate Media Co, has been confirmed as the new Deputy Chairman of the Professional Publishers Association (PPA)

Bureau, who has been a member of the PPA Board and Executive Committee since 2012, was appointed to the role at the annual meeting of the association’s Board of Directors.
He will support the current Chairman, Marcus Rich, CEO of TI Media, during his tenure as Deputy for 2019, and will then become PPA Chair for two years from January 1, 2020.

Barry McIlheney, CEO of the PPA, said:
“I am thrilled that Tom has taken on this vital and important role, especially at such an exciting time for the industry and the PPA. Following a root-and-branch review of the PPA’s service to members over the past year, a new and rejuvenated PPA has emerged, with a clearer offer to members focussed on really changing the conversation and delivering on key areas where the industry can do better, together.

“Demonstrating this new focus, the PPA 30 Under 30 Awards will return on March 28, a refreshed PPA Festival comes to Tobacco Dock on May 9, and a new-look PPA Awards will celebrate the very best-of-the-best across our industry on June 19.”

Marcus Rich, PPA Chairman and TI Media CEO said:

“As vast change continues to shape publishers’ businesses right across the breadth of the PPA membership, Tom’s knowledge, support, and guidance will be invaluable in ensuring that the PPA continues to evolve not only to meet the demands of its members, but to move the dial on the issues that really matter to them. I am delighted to have him join us as Deputy Chairman”

Tom Bureau, added:

“It’s a real pleasure to take on the role of Deputy Chairman and I look forward to being able to provide my full support to both Marcus and Barry. Having been involved with the PPA for many years, I know how essential the work they do on our behalf is. I’m looking forward to working with the PPA Team to drive our industry forward through an exciting chapter.”

Bureau has more than 20 years’ experience of running world-class online content and cross-media companies, and launched Immediate Media Co in 2011, which has doubled in size and revenues in the last seven years, publishing some of the UK’s best loved brands, including Radio Times and BBC Good Food. Tom also oversaw Immediate's successful sale from Exponent Private Equity to the Hubert Burda Media Company in 2017.

Previously, he was co-founder and CEO of Silicon Media Group launched in 1998 and backed by a number of blue-chip VC’s. Silicon.com was sold to CNET Networks in 2002 and as a result of the transaction, he joined CNET to run the UK business and launched CNET Networks UK. He then joined the Exponent backed Magicalia as CEO in 2008, whose merger with Origin Publishing and BBC Magazines formed Immediate.

Bureau takes over as PPA Deputy Chairman from James Tye, CEO at Dennis Publishing Ltd, who has now completed what McIlheney described as “four exceptional years” as both Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the PPA.
