British GQ features Adam Baidawi's first Editor's letter as the magazine enters a new era

Mohamed Salah stars on the cover of GQ's first ever global sports issue marking the new beginning of a borderless era for the Condé Nast title.

Adam Baidawi, deputy global editorial director of GQ, has revealed his first issue as the head of editorial content at British GQ. Debuting GQ’s first-ever global sports issue, the interview featuring Mohamed Salah is one of three GQ cover stories to be released this week.

In his debut editor’s letter Adam Baidawi writes: “It is a wild and wonderful honour to take leadership of British GQ, and to be asked to succeed an unimpeachable era of greatness in storytelling, style, and influence. Everyone knows what British luxury has been – and now my team and I get the radical responsibility of documenting a whole new British luxury; a whole new Britain.”

The February issue of British GQ marks a new, borderless era for the title. With a renewed emphasis on diversity, gender equality, sustainability and mental health, Baidawi leads GQ to its next chapter, while honouring the incredible legacy and influence it has in the UK as well as internationally.

“Over the coming months, the team and I will be tinkering with every aspect of what our brand does: from web to social to video to experiential to this glorious print product, too. We want to electrify it, democratise it, and let it act as both a signal and receiver to the wider world,” Baidawi writes.

Adored by fans across the world, coverstar Mohamed Salah is a record-breaking footballer, who throughout his career has been, if anything, underrated. Regarded as one of the best football players in the world right now, Salah has scored more Premier League goals than any African player in history, and reached 100 goals faster than any other Liverpool player. In his cover interview, Salah speaks with Oliver Franklin-Wallis about the importance of recognition, his goal to cement his status as the world’s best football player, and what it will take for him to stay at Liverpool.

The February issue is GQ’s first-ever global sports issue, with three cover stories released this week. The February issue of British GQ is available on newsstands and via digital download on 25 January 2022.
