President, BBC Worldwide UK & ANZMarcus oversees a number of businesses including the company’s 50% ownership of UKTV (a joint venture with Scripps Networks Interactive); TV sales; consumer products; digital and physical publishing; live events; BBC Worldwide Learning and clips licensing business that is a joint venture with Getty. Marcus also oversees the BBC Worldwide’s Australia and New Zealand businesses that comprise various licencing and sales ventures and the newly-launched drama channel BBC First. Recently Marcus also assumed responsibility for Global Advertising on BBC.com and BBC World News with teams based in the UK, USA, Asia, S. Africa and ANZ. Prior to this Marcus was MD, Global Brands, where his business worked in conjunction with other departments to drive greater value from BBC Worldwide's leading international and multi-format properties including Top Gear, Dancing With the Stars, Doctor Who and BBC Earth. Marcus began his career in advertising sales for Redwood Publishing, joining BBC Worldwide in 1991, when the BBC's commercial arm took over the business. In 1997 he moved from Group Advertisement Manager of Lifestyle titles to become Publisher of this group, adding Top Gear, Natural History and Music titles to his portfolio over the following three years. In 2000 he completed a two-year MBA at Ashridge Business School. Marcus joined the BBC Magazines Board at the end of 2001 and the BBC Haymarket Exhibitions Board a year later. In 2002 Marcus moved over to publish the Radio Times as Publishing Director, in 2005 Marcus was promoted to Managing Director, BBC Magazines (London) and two years later, Marcus took responsibility for the transformation of a number of BBC Worldwide magazine titles to the web, overseeing delivery of the infrastructure for all BBC Worldwide's passion sites.
